AISD Consolidation Planning
Thank you to all the parents and community members who came out to last week’s PTA meeting! It was a great turnout with lots of productive and insightful conversation.
Principal Moore and Dean Trahan kicked off the meeting by sharing some information on the ongoing AISD consolidation process. You may have heard about this, through this newsletter or other news.
This process has raised a lot of questions among concerned parents, and while we don’t have all the answers yet, there is a lot of helpful information available already! To highlight some key points:
-
Austin ISD is facing significant budget shortfalls and looking for ways to meet all its students’ needs, now and in the future.
-
As part of this process, many changes are possible, including school zone boundary changes, transfer policy review, facility repurposing, program realignment, and yes, school closures.
-
AISD is taking this process seriously and considering many factors, including the broader context around each school and its role in its community. You can learn more about the factors being considered, and see some of the raw data here. At the PTA meeting we watched this video that helps to explain the data and how to interpret it.
-
Principal Moore and Dean Trahan urged our Campbell community to keep our children’s needs and well-being foremost in our minds through this process. No matter what happens, this is a decision with impact on our whole community, including other schools nearby, and we want the Campbell community to be a positive force in these discussions.
-
AISD will announce a draft proposal for what changes to make at its October 9th Board Information Session, and anticipates voting on the final plan on November 20th
-
Any changes would go into effect no sooner than the 2026-27 school year.
This process is still ongoing, and your participation matters! There is an AISD homepage for information about this process, including a parent survey—this is a great way to make your voice heard!
And there will be informational meetings over Zoom, 6-8pm on Tuesday, September 9th (link), Wednesday, September 10th (link), and Monday, September 15th (link). These will feature information from AISD, and opportunities to participate.
📓 Back to School Night ⭐️
Back to School night is coming up on Thursday, September 11th, 6-7pm! At this event you can hear from Principal Moore and your scholar’s teachers about what they have planned for the year. It’s a great time, come out and bring the kids!
🍔 Campbell Cookout 🌭
This year’s Campbell Cookout is fast approaching—it will be held Saturday, September 27th from 12-3pm!
This event is always a great time, with food, games, and more! You can sign up here to help out by providing ingredients, setting up / breaking down, or working the grill! Hope to see you there 💙
🥨 Snack Shack 🍬
Snack Shack is in full swing, and we need more help for upcoming Fridays!
Every Friday, we need volunteers and donations to make Snack Shack run! If you’re interested in selling the snacks, you can sign up here through the rest the year (don’t forget to register as a volunteer! Details below). Volunteering involves being at the school from 2:35 until about 3:30, and selling the snacks at one of our three stations.
And if you want to donate goods to be sold, you can sign up here. Thank you in advance for your support, we can’t run Snack Shack without you!
☕️ Principal’s Coffee 🍩
The first Principal’s coffee of the year is coming up on Friday, September 12th at 8:30am!
This monthly event is a great way to hear directly from Principal Moore about what’s coming up at Campbell, ask questions, and meet other parents. Hope to see you there for free donuts and coffee!
🏫 AISD Volunteer Process 💙
The PTA runs on help from volunteers—we couldn’t do it without our community! And AISD has a process for volunteers to register and be cleared to help out at school events.
If you want to volunteer at a PTA-organized event, or any event at Campbell, please register here first! You just need to create an account and complete the volunteer requirements, it should take 10 minutes or less.
It may take a few days to get cleared. When you get a confirmation email please forward it to us at volunteer@bluedragonpta.org! (If you’re not seeing this confirmation email, please check your spam folder.)
