🏫 AISD Consolidation Community Engagement 💙

AISD has released a proposed plan to consolidate schools. This plan would close Maplewood Elementary and have those students attend Campbell; it would also adjust the school attendance boundaries and the transfer process.

This week there is a Conversations with the Superintendent event featuring our AISD Superintendent, Matias Segura on Wednesday, October 29th at 8am, at Maplewood Elementary. This will be an opportunity to hear directly from him about the proposal.

Here are some more upcoming events, and ways to learn more and lend your voice to this decision-making process:

  • Last Friday Campbell hosted a Community Engagement meeting with AISD Board Trustees. You can share comments from that meeting here

  • AISD is hosting a Q&A session on Monday, October 27th at 5:30-8:30pm. This event will be virtual, you can register to attend here

  • Talk to AISD: You can comment here to send your feedback directly to the board by Tuesday, October 28th

  • There is an East Austin Community Meeting about the plan on Tuesday, October 28th at 6-7:30pm, at Greater Calvary Bible Church, 6510 Berkman Dr.

  • There are several AISD board meetings coming up. These are held at the Austin ISD Board Auditorium, 4000 South Interstate 35 Frontage Road, Austin Texas 78704. You can watch these meetings live online, and register to comment in-person or over the phone: learn more here

    • Thursday, October 30th, 6pm - Regular voting meeting

    • Thursday, November 6th, 6pm - Information session

    • Thursday, November 20th, 6pm - Regular voting meeting. This is when the consolidation plan will be voted on

We will be here for our Campbell scholars no matter what. This plan has the potential to bring big changes to our school, and we want to make sure our parents, dragon leaders, and scholars have a voice in determining what those changes will look like. Stay dragon strong!

Red Ribbon / Spirit Week

A fun week is coming up: October 27th-31st will be Red Ribbon Week, aka Campbell Spirit Week!

Red Ribbon week is an annual campaign to prevent abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The theme is Protect Your Brain. This year we will be promoting our Campbell Spirit this same week!

Scholars are invited to participate in theme days throughout the week, and there will be a school wide spirit rally on Friday, October 31st at 2pm. Here are the theme days:

10/27: Mindful Monday - Participate in mindfulness activities at school

10/28: My Future is BRIGHT Tuesday - Wear sunglasses and BRIGHT or neon colors

10/29: Sock Full of Wellness Wednesday - Wear your coolest socks

10/30: Tip Your Hat Thursday - Wear a hat

Snack Shack is in full swing, and we need more help for upcoming Fridays!

Every Friday, we need volunteers and donations to make Snack Shack run! If you’re interested in selling the snacks, you can sign up here through the rest the year (don’t forget to register as a volunteer! Details below). Volunteering involves being at the school from 2:35 until about 3:30, and selling the snacks at one of our three stations.

And if you want to donate goods to be sold, you can sign up here. Thank you in advance for your support, we can’t run Snack Shack without you!

🏫 AISD Volunteer Process 💙

The PTA runs on help from volunteers—we couldn’t do it without our community! And AISD has a process for volunteers to register and be cleared to help out at school events.

If you want to volunteer at a PTA-organized event, or any event at Campbell, please register here first! You just need to create an account and complete the volunteer requirements, it should take 10 minutes or less.

It may take a few days to get cleared. When you get a confirmation email please forward it to us at volunteer@bluedragonpta.org! (If you’re not seeing this confirmation email, please check your spam folder.)
