Thank you to everyone who joined our most recent PTA meeting. It was wonderful to see our community members discussing AISD’s proposed changes to our school, and to hear everyone’s thoughts and feelings.  There are still opportunities to speak up on this plan, read on to learn how!

🏆 Scholar Awards 🏅

It’s time for the first nine weeks awards ceremony! Every scholar will be recognized for their achievements so far this year.

This takes place in the Campbell cafeteria on Friday, October 17th: Kindergarten through 2nd grade at 8am, and 3rd through 5th graders at 9am. Parents and loved ones are welcome to attend! But if you can’t make it, the PTA does take a picture of each scholar being awarded and will send those home soon after the ceremony.

🏫 AISD Consolidation 💙

AISD has released a proposed plan to consolidate schools. This plan would close Maplewood Elementary and have those students attend Campbell.

Last Thursday there was an AISD board information session, which featured several of our Campbell community members sharing their thoughts on the plan. You can watch that info session here.

This proposal is not approved yet, and there are many questions that still need to be answered. We urge parents to get involved in the process. There are lots of ways to do this:

• Spread the word! Some parents may not be aware of this plan

• Talk to AISD: You can comment here to send your feedback directly to the board by October 28th

• Attend a Q&A session. There are several of these coming up:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 14th, 6-7:30pm (South Austin schools)

  • Thursday, Oct. 16th, 6-7:30pm (North Austin schools like Campbell 💙)

  • Monday, Oct. 27, 5:30-8:30pm (Entire district)

  • Saturday, Nov. 8, 10:30am-1:30pm, Delco Activity Center (Entire district)

• Attend a Campbell PTA meeting—our next one is Wednesday, November 12th at 5:30pm, before the scheduled vote

• Attend an AISD board meeting. The vote is scheduled to take place at the meeting on Thursday, November 20th at 6pm, and you can sign up to speak or record a message that will be played at the meeting

We will be here for our Campbell scholars no matter what. This plan has the potential to bring big changes to our school, and we want to make sure our parents, dragon leaders, and scholars have a voice in determining what those changes will look like. Stay dragon strong! 💙

👕 Campbell T-Shirt Design Contest 🎨

Our annual Campbell T-Shirt Design Contest is underway now! Entry forms have been sent home with scholars. All blue dragons are invited to submit a design, and the winner will be printed on t-shirts which will be sold through the PTA!

Remember, these designs should be in one color and dragon strong. Turn in submissions to your dragon leader by this Friday, October 17th!

🎃 Fall Festival 🎟️

The days are getting shorter, and Fall Festival is almost upon us. This spooky event is a great opportunity to show off your costumes, get some treats, and have fun with the blue dragon community.

Join us at Campbell on Thursday, October 30th 6-8pm! And learn more about volunteering or contributing at this week’s PTA meeting!

📆 Camps for Upcoming Days Off 🏕️

Don’t get caught off guard, there are several school holidays coming up!

Monday, October 20th is a student holiday for Diwali and parent conferences

Tuesday, November 4th is a student holiday / staff development day for Election Day

If you need childcare for these days, there are options!

Austin Parks and Recreation offers day camps at multiple locations, including the nearby Mendez Recreation Center and Pan Am Center. The cost is $28 a day for Austin residents. Learn more here and register here now!

And Creative Action offers day camps for most of these dates. The cost is $75 a day. You can register here now!

🥨 Snack Shack 🍬

Snack Shack is in full swing, and we need more help for upcoming Fridays!

Every Friday, we need volunteers and donations to make Snack Shack run! If you’re interested in selling the snacks, you can sign up here through the rest the year (don’t forget to register as a volunteer! Details below). Volunteering involves being at the school from 2:35 until about 3:30, and selling the snacks at one of our three stations.

And if you want to donate goods to be sold, you can sign up here. Thank you in advance for your support, we can’t run Snack Shack without you!

🏫 AISD Volunteer Process 💙

The PTA runs on help from volunteers—we couldn’t do it without our community! And AISD has a process for volunteers to register and be cleared to help out at school events.

If you want to volunteer at a PTA-organized event, or any event at Campbell, please register here first! You just need to create an account and complete the volunteer requirements, it should take 10 minutes or less.

It may take a few days to get cleared. When you get a confirmation email please forward it to us at volunteer@bluedragonpta.org! (If you’re not seeing this confirmation email, please check your spam folder.)
